Use either the balsamic or white in place of the cider vinegar.

My sister in law makes a b-b-q sauce with:

Ketchup

Honey or brown sugar, or corn syrup, or molasses

salt

pepper

granulated garlic

liquid smoke

I am missing stuff I know bit you can just add what ever you want from there.

Or this is different yet yummy:

Rhubarb B-B-Q---I understand not everyone has rhubarb on hand but this is good for future wings or what ever.

Ingredients:

1 heaping cup chopped fresh or frozen rhubarb

2/3 cup water

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 teaspoon canola oil

1 garlic clove, minced

3/4 cup ketchup

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup dark corn syrup

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 1/2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce

1/4 teaspoon salt

In a small saucepan, bring rhubarb and water to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 5-6 minutes or until tender. Remove from the heat; cool slightly.

Place rhubarb in a blender or food processor; cover and process until smooth. Set aside.

In the same saucepan, saute onion in oil until tender. Add garlic; saute 1 minute longer. Add the remaining ingredients.

Whisk in rhubarb puree until blended. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Use as a basting sauce for grilled meats. Store in the refrigerator. Yield: 2-1/3 cups.

I have adapted this a bit from another recipe I found online but I love it!!!
Honey Garlic BBQ Sauce

INGREDIENTS

* 2 cups ketchup

* 1 bulb garlic, peeled and crushed

* 1 cup water

* 2 tablespoons hot sauce

* 1/4 cup honey

* 2 tablespoons molasses

* 2 tablespoons brown sugar

* 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

* 1 teaspoon soy sauce

* 1 teaspoon salt

* 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning

* 1 pinch paprika

* 1 pinch crushed red pepper

* 1 pinch ground white pepper

* 1 pinch ground black pepper

* 2 tablespoons cornstarch

* 1 tablespoon water

* 1/2 cup butter

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large saucepan over medium low heat, mix together ketchup, garlic, 1 cup of water, hot sauce, honey, molasses, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, Cajun seasoning, paprika, red pepper, white pepper and black pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer approximately 30 minutes.

2. In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of water. Adjust amount of water as needed to fully dissolve cornstarch. Stir into the sauce mixture. Continue simmering approximately 15 minutes.

3. Stir butter into the sauce mixture. Continue simmering mixture approximately 15 more minutes, or until butter is melted and the sauce has begun to thicken. Serve over meats prepared as desired.

I'd suggest slow cooking the pork with a rub and then add the sauce to the meat as it is used. Some people like more sauce some people like less and some people prefer the meat without any or with a different sauce.

Here is how to make a simple sauce without any tomato.

Put a cup or so of yellow mustard in a bowl and brown sugar (dark or light or both) mixing it in as you go until the mustard has a nice sweet flavor that cancels out the bite of the mustard. Add a half teaspoon of powdered thyme(not necessary but gives a nice flavor) add a few pinches of garlic salt(more or less depending on how much you like garlic) add a half teaspoon of fresh ground pepper. Add a tablespoon of vinegar( apple is the best but any will do) mix well. This will keep well in the fridge. It is good on chicken, pork, beef, sausage, green salads, sandwiches.
Any vinegar will work.

I don't know any but Open Pit bbq sauce is inexpensive and great when doctored up. Even simply adding black pepper to it.

The sweeter sauces like KC Masterpiece use molasses as sweeteners it seems.
Eastern NC style:

1 C vinegar

2 - 3 T crushed red pepper

1 t brown sugar or treacle

combine and heat to dissolve sweetener, allow to cool
